This Sunday, May 11, is Mother’s Day. Traditionally, in church, we celebrate mothers and how much they teach us, love us, inspire us, and the like. And all of this is great.
But Mother’s Day isn’t Happy for everyone. What about those who don’t have a great relationship with their mother? Or those who have lost their mother? Or mothers who have lost children? For them, Mother’s Day can be incredibly painful, especially when the only focus during church is on those who have had great relationships.
So, this Sunday at New Story, we’ll celebrate Mother’s Day a little differently. While we’ll certainly celebrate with those who have a great relationship with their mother, we will also be there for those who struggle on this day. We’ll do this through our prayer time, our songs, our message, our kids’ activities, and everything else we do during worship on Sunday.
So, if you know someone who struggles on Mother’s Day, please invite them to come with you this Sunday so that we can lift them up. And if you know someone who loves to celebrate on Mother’s Day, invite them as well so we can high-five them. It’s going to be a meaningful day for all of us.
