Raise your hand if for even one moment you thought we might not actually get the building we’ve been trying so long to get to use as New Story Church. Okay, now put your hand down before your co-workers think you’ve gone mad because WE GOT IT! Yep, it’s all ours, and we’re going to do great things in it. Of course we will never worship the new building, spend tons of money to put Ming vases in it, or be afraid to spill Hawaiian Punch all over the floor, but we are going to make it awesome and here’s how:
This Saturday, July 28th and next Saturday, August 4, we’ll have work days at the new building! We’ll work from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please come for as much of the time as you can because we need you and you know you’ll have a blast. It will be a great chance to meet other New Story people and make fun of the pastor as he tries to swing a sledgehammer. We’ll be demoing the building, which means we’ll tear stuff down and throw it out. The contractor is going to have one of his men on site so we don’t hurt ourselves (or innocent bystanders). Doing this work ourselves is saving us tens of thousands of dollars which we can use to help feed hungry people, show people a New Story, and make a real difference in the community.
Things to bring: Gloves, goggles, a mask, wheel barrows, sledgehammers, whoopee cushions, and anything else you think might help. Wearing long clothes would also be helpful (at a bare minimum, you must wear clothes, and no Village People construction worker outfits will be allowed). If you’d like to bring snacks, let us know and we’ll put you in contact with the right people.
Who Can Come?: Only those high school age and up can come inside the building to do demo work. Younger people will need to help clean up the parking lot, serve snacks, etc. Our main concern is safety. Please don’t bring young kids if you can’t watch them every single second. We’ll have plenty of great things the kids can do at a later time.
What if I can’t come?: You can still do something vitally important by praying for us. Pray that we will be safe. Ask for God’s blessings on the building. Ask God to help us use the building in ways that will give the community a New Story. Ask God to help us be humble in everything we do with the building.
This is a great and exciting time for us as a church. Tons of people have helped make this building possible for us, and God has been with us every step of the way. Now it’s up to us, with God’s help, to take the next step forward and help even more people have a new story. Will we do it? Of course we will because God is great and we are unstoppable.
See you on Saturday! If you have any questions, please let us know.
